Working California teacher can tutor you in any of the language arts for Shakespeare's mere pittance.

About the lesson

As a classroom teacher, I believe my central responsibility is to ignite within my students the will to learn on their own and the curiosity to do so for the rest if their lives. From my perspective, Socrates had it right when he said, "The unexamined life is not worth living."

Students learn by example. They also learn by doing. "Show me, don't tell me" underlines the manner in which I believe my students satisfy their curiosity. For example, I like to teach students effective writing skills by developing small groups that critique and validate one another's writing.

Students learn best when they are actively engaged with the material. In addition, classroom management skills create a safe and calm environment, so that students feel safe to express themselves and ask questions.

Asking questions is encouraged and is a core part of any curriculum. From a Socratic perspective, good questions always generate more questions, whetting the student's curiosity cumulatively. Thus, students learn constantly. Students are tested at baseline beforehand to see what they bring a priori, and afterwards to see what they have accomplished. Results can then be compared to measure achievement.

In a sense, I compare my role as teacher to that of a tailor. I custom design each child's language arts curriculum to his or her particular needs. I consider his or her interests to bring the literature alive- to spark a greater love of reading. I create scaffolding to move the student just far enough along to challenge them without challenging them so much so as to paralyze them.
Emotions are contagious. In a classroom, this phenomenon is certainly apparent. In this spirit, I like to create excitement. Whatever the unit, it is not about dusting off last year's notes. Each year is approached with new eyes, new ideas, and fresh approaches. Students are invited to offer input. Cooperative opportunities are utilized. Teaching is a creative opportunity. I am honored and privileged to belong to this profession.

About Steven

You want an experienced professional, someone who takes your education seriously.
I’m that person.

If you’re seeking a teacher with a valid credential, one that knows the State of California’s teaching standards in English for grades 7 through 12, and adults, I’m that person too.

I usually teach industrial style lessons to thirty-six students at a time, all teachers do.

But now students need more help than ever and go to school for less hours. They need more competent help at home from someone who really knows what the teachers expect.

That’s me again.
