About the lesson

Are you in doubt about the validity of your Econometric analysis or a bit skeptical in dealing with Econometric methods?

My hands-on approach, supplementing Stata/ SPSS/ Minitab is based on the following considerations:

Conceptualization and the emphasis on theory:
presentations of assumptions of the ‘Ordinary Least Squares’, using extensive use of graphs, and how the assumptions of the ‘Ordinary least squares’ ensure the best, linear and unbiased estimators.

Appraisal and the impact assessment:
discussion on implications upon the desired properties of estimators, if assumptions of the ‘Ordinary least squares’ are violated.

Relevance and applicability: illustrating the applicability of topics and methods in Econometrics.

Use of visual tools and algebraic manipulations:
visual tools in form of graphs are primarily been used to consolidate the foundation of structuring equations and expressions.

Empiricism and emphasis on the applied model building: from initial specification of econometric models till consolidation of econometric models require critical assessment and the critical judgment about significance and insignificance of potential regressors, and how to customize methodological choices if assumptions of OLS are violated. For refinement of econometric models, early judgments are shared with students, feedback is invited, and it is demonstrated on how to experiment with a scientific guess, for model consolidation.

Domains of application:
Econometric tools may effectively be applied in domains of Business administration, Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, Media studies, Education and Medical Sciences. Different applications of econometrics are termed as Sociometrics and Psychometrics.

Supplementing digitalized resources:
to facilitate digitalized learning in online tutoring, I supplement all the stated packages through screen sharing, so that all steps and procedures related to the data management and the analysis of the data, may directly be visualized. In addition to that if there is a further need of making graphs, and writing equations, the digital tablet is used with the Microsoft Whiteboard and screen sharing options, so that student(s) get the similar feel of a live classroom.

Emphasis on model evaluation and interpreting results:
while evaluating existing literature and in order to construct econometric models indigenously, it is imperative to assess theoretical and empirical relevance and goodness of results, and how to plan for further improvement in the estimated model.

About Syed

Faculty in Econometrics and quantitative methods, and have a long-standing interest and expertise in teaching Econometrics courses for over two decades, at the Bachelor's and Master's levels.

Along with teaching, I extensively adapted Econometric modeling in journal papers and in theses supervision; such as Time Series models, Models of Binary Choice (Logit, Probit and the Tobit series), Econometrics of Survey data (Ordered Probit, Ordered Logistic and Multinomial models of ordinal and categorical data), panel data models and last but not the least, econometrics of the count data (Poisson and Negative Binomial Regression).

I have 17 years of experience in academic research, including roles as thesis supervisor, senior research fellow, and coordinator of the research. Have published journal articles, while quite a few research papers are published in international conference proceedings. I also worked as a consultant on two contractual projects.
