About the lesson
Lessons are tailored to each student's individual needs and goals. I am patient yet tenacious when it comes to establishing a healthy technique and set-up, so my students can play with balance, ease and confidence. I want to help my students deepen their musical sensitivity, take ownership of the practice-process and find their own artistic voice.
We typically explore music from the Western classical tradition together, as well as some fiddle and folk musics. Scales, arpeggios and etudes and exercises are used to build technical proficiency and understanding of basic music theory.
I am a registered Suzuki Method violin and viola instructor, and incorporate many ideas from this educational philosophy in my non-Suzuki teaching. I also have helped students prepare for the Royal Conservatory of Music examinations. I enjoy working with the clear structure and guidelines of these methods, setting clear and tangible goals to achieve!

About Emily
Violinist Emily Hale teaches private lessons in Boston, and is Assistant Professor of Violin and Viola at Bridgewater State University. She teaches students from age 3 to 65+, whether the earliest beginners or advanced students wanting to take their playing to the next level.
After relocating to Boston in 2016, Emily served on the music faculty at Dexter Southfield, South Shore Conservatory, All Newton Music School and the Bi-lingual Montessori School of Sharon, teaching private violin and viola lessons, coaching masterclasses, organizing and leading student recitals and workshops, and performing in faculty chamber music recitals.
Before coming to Boston, Emily coached baroque chamber ensembles at the Royal College of Music Junior Department in London (UK), served as guest director for the Springfield Talent Education Program Chamber Orchestra, and was a founding teacher for the CREC International Magnet School’s Suzuki Violin program, a collaboration with POTE (Providing Opportunity Through Education) Foundation and the Music School at Sound Crossing. She has been on the faculty of Elizabethtown College Music Camp since 2010, Penn State Summer Music Camp, and looks forward to teaching at Early Music Week in 2021. As a teaching artist, Emily has created interactive baroque music workshops for young musicians based on the Suzuki Method repertoire.
Emily performs with ensembles including Emmanuel Music, The Sebastians, Early Music New York, has appeared on BBC Channel 4 and was a violin soloist in New Repertory Theater’s production of Oliver. She is founder and Artistic Director of Boston-based baroque ensemble The Halfmoon, and produces award-winning Pajama Concerts for families. Emily is a graduate of the Royal College of Music, where she won the McKenna Prize for Baroque Music. Emily serves on the board of the Suzuki Association of Massachusetts.

Emily and I have known each other for the past 3 years. As a fellow teacher and professional violinist, I can say that Emily is a wonderful educator and musician, and I have referred several students to her over the past few years. She is kind and patient but also knows how to challenge her students to keep improving. She is dedicated to continually expanding her knowledge of pedagogy, and regularly attends Suzuki teacher trainings and workshops. Emily is very creative in her approach to her musicianship and I would strongly recommend her to anyone seeking a violin instructor.
As one of Emily’s colleagues, I can attest to her thoughtfulness and dedication as a teacher and musician. She brings a high level of care and consideration to her teaching and seeks to provide the best possible experience for each student. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Emily to any potential students!
Emily has a lot of experience teaching violin and viola. I've known her for over four years, both as a teacher and as a high level performer. She is very patient with kids, which is important for such a demanding instrument. At the same time holds a professional standard for playing, which helps the students improve quickly and makes them happy with their progress. I highly recommend Emily to be a part of any child's music educating process. They would gain a fun, positive and calm teacher!
