About the lesson
-How are the classes structured?-
All of my students send me an audio recording of a text that I’ll share with you once you send me a message. We will use this to immediately identify what sounds stand out and these are the sounds we will hone in on.
To do so, we’ll use detailed Google Documents that I’ve created for each sound of the American phonetic alphabet. Once we’ve built a solid foundation of the American accent, we’ll move on to more advanced concepts like linking, rhythm, reading text and tongue twisters which all serve as stepping stones to the ultimate goal: being able to hold the accent in a live situation.
-How long until I sound American?-
This strongly depends on the student and on the frequency of the classes. Obviously, the more frequently we meet and the more you actively drill what we’ve worked on in class the faster you’ll progress. Certain people can immediately pick up a sound when others need multiple sessions to fully get it. Our jaw, tongue and lips are usually used very intuitively so it’ll take some time to retrain them. The important thing to remember is that it’s a marathon, not a sprint.
Curriculum:
- drilling sounds and building a solid foundation of the American accent
- basics of the phonetic alphabet
- reading text & tongue twisters (advanced)
- rhythm & intonation (advanced)
- exploring regional American dialects to strengthen your "neutral" American (very advanced)
Recording yourself will be crucial to your progress. It'll teach your ear to listen for the right sounds. Most of the time, students aren't aware of which sounds they are doing right or wrong which can result in thinking you're saying a sound wrong when in fact you might be saying it correctly (or the other way around!). In either case, it is important to listen back to your own voice to recognize objectively if the sound was spoken correctly.

About Dillon
I used to be in the same boat as you! I’m from Europe and came to the US with an accent. I came here to study acting in New York City and thanks to great teachers and hard work I was able to get rid of my accent and I now audition for American parts. This is how I acquired the knowledge and experience to help people that are in the same situation as I was.
In acting school, I had the privilege of having 1on1 coaching once a week and group classes twice a week for 2 years. These were specifically classes aimed at accent reduction but I also had Voice & Speech classes next to that (twice a week) which built on what I learned in the accent reduction classes.
Additionally, having had to tackle this issue as an “outsider” I also have a more nuanced understanding of the quirks and inconsistencies of the American accent as well as the stages of reducing your accent on an emotional level.
Review
All of our reviews are collected by us and are 100% reliable. They correspond to a real experience lived by students with Dillon.
Perfect! I like the structured approach to learning the sounds of the American accent. After the first recording, Dillon chose the sounds that stuck out the most and we started working on them.
The cool thing is that each subsequent lesson involves the additional practice of the sounds from the last class but in a more challenging environment.
However, the class is never limited to the planned practice. If I can pronounce the target sound well, Dillon draws attention to other aspects of speech, such as word linking.
I also like the tips and tricks for improving my accent that Dillon gives during practice. These drills help me feel the difference between the sounds.
The learning process is well organized. There is a calendar with scheduled classes. After each class, Dillon sends a recording so I have a chance to go back over the explanations and practice extra. Despite the large time difference, Dillon was able to find a convenient time for our classes.
Dillon is very supportive. He always tries to provide as much information as possible and takes care to answer questions that arise.- Dillon's response : I really enjoyed meeting Olga. She was very attentive and it's always nice to meet students that have already spent some time getting familiar with phonetics on their own time. She's a fast learner, I'm excited to work with her going forward!
Perfect! Dillon's method is organized and thorough. He prepares information and materials for each session. I like that he points out details and tells me extracurricular information about the accents and types of pronunciations. It helps me to create an association mind map and to memorize new perky bits of information.
Our work together has shown some results already after first sessions. I am glad that my husband who is a native american noticed improvements. I'm looking forward to our lessons. And I am becoming more confident starting a new project where i will have to talk publicly.- Dillon's response : It was fun working with Ira! She was very attentive and asked pointed questions. I can tell she's a hard worker and I'm excited to keep working with her!
Perfect! Just exactly what I need! I am sooo happy that I found Dillon. There are a few reasons why: First of all, he is very professional, he knows exactly what I need, and I can feel that my success is his goal. I find it very beneficial that he is not a native speaker (even though, his English is perfect!), but because of this Dillon knows what are the difficulties we might have, and what is the best way to explain to the student how to pronounce or understand some specific sounds - since he was going through this as well, at some point. I can say that I am 100% confident that I made the right choice, and I can already see the progress. And what is the most important - the learning process with him is always fun, so I can enjoy it!
- Dillon's response : Antonina was extremely polite and very curious which in and of itself are already great qualities in a student (and any individual). However, to top that off, she's very diligent and not afraid of hard work. I'm very happy to be working with her.
Perfect! Dillon is a great tutor. If you want to improve your English accent, just listen to his message.
He worked on himself and radically improved his accent. Now he uses his experience to help you do the same.
He's a real deal- Dillon's response : Liviu was a pleasure to meet and work with. Very attentive and very polite. Exactly what you're looking for in a good student!
Perfect! Dillon is truly a language-expert. He knows all the technique and tricks. He knows what's the issue and how to practice to improve it. But most important, Dillon cares and understand the struggle learning a new accent. I enjoy his energy and love working with him. The chance to learn from him has been tremendously helpful for my own journey. And for that I'm thankful
- Dillon's response : She was extremely polite and very attentive. I really enjoyed getting to know her and addressing her questions and concerns for her accent.
Perfect! Dillon is very professional, patient, calm and able to explain the lessons in terms easy to understand. I really recommend him. Thanks you so much Dillon!
- Dillon's response : He is a very hard worker. I could tell in our second session that he had already done work on his own as I had recommended (which students don't always do). I can tell he is very dedicated and he's a pleasure to work with!

Dillon is extremely competent in his area and I would recommend him to anyone willing to improve their English or their pronunciation skills. He is very disciplined (never late for a class, never cancels without notification), has a methodical approach and truly engages with the student. The results are tangible, I would recommend him without hesitation.
I have been talking accent reduction classes with Dillon and its been incredible helpful.
Dillon is a great teacher, very professional and patient, he is definitely the best option for anyone who wants to improve their English pronunciation and accent. He has a wide knowledge of the topic and his methodology fits anyone. I am very happy and feel more confident now to speak thanks to his lessons. Thank you Dillon!
Dillon has this special mix of focus, fun, and empathy. He really understands how to break down sounds and accents from both a technical and emotional place. This makes it so much easier for me to learn and have fun in the process. I wholeheartedly recommend him if you're looking for accent reduction and/or help with nailing an accent for an audition or role.
I just want to say that if you're thinking about working with any accent or dialect coach, it's important to remember that this is like learning anything. There's a learning curve. You won't be able to just do it overnight.
I've worked with Dillon outside of superprof. I'm an actor as well so I knew him through 'the industry' so to speak. He was able to quickly recognize what I needed to work on and gave me some great exercises and tips. I really enjoy working with him still. I'm not American and I noticed a really big difference in my speech for sure. I really like that somehow this makes Americans take me more seriously for some strange reason. It's weird, but there's definitely something that makes Americans think of you differently when you have a strong accent so I'm glad that I have worked on that and continue to work on it.Dillon is really detail oriented and really stresses how important it is to be consistent. It's clear pretty fast why he managed to get so good at this. He works hard and breaks it down into manageable pieces without overwhelming you. I feel like it's very easy to get overwhelmed when trying to get rid of your accent because there are a lot of variables to juggle at the same time but he addresses that really well. I didn't know that actors had such extensive training on sounds and accents, at least where he trained!

Details
My hourly rate is $50/hr but this kind of work takes time. You won't reduce your accent within one session so I offer a 10 session package where you get a discount. Instead of paying $600 for 10 sessions, the price is $575.
If you're not sure if you'd like to commit, I offer free 30 minute clarity calls. This is different from an actual session. I'll still have you make an audio recording of a text that I'll send you as preparation for the session and we might discuss sounds and I'll show you what the class materials look like but the main purpose of this session is for us to get to know each other and see if we're a good fit!
Payment: I use Stripe which is a very popular and safe payment processor used by online businesses all over the world which makes paying for services very easy. You'll also receive a receipt that you can use for tax purposes.
Cancellation Policy: You can cancel your session up to 24hours before the time of the session and reschedule for free. If you cancel after that (e.g. 4hrs before the session), the session will not be refunded and counts as completed.
