I am a chartered accountant with CA ANZ and a registered Tax Agent and have more than 17 years of audit and tax experience in India and Australia. I have qualified the BAS Agent Exam and the Tax Agent Exam offered by the Tax Institute Australia. I am in great position to guide students contemplating to take BAS Agent exams / Tax agent exams and support them in preparing for their formative assessments and final exam.

When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?
I started tutoring young kids when I was like 16 years old. I helped my neighbours and my friend's siblings in maths, English and other subjects. I later realised that I enjoyed the teaching process and slowly moved on to professional teaching after I passed my Chartered Accountancy in 2005. Since then I have been consistently tutoring privately or in Universities till date.

Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).
I have an in-depth understanding of the following subjects: Basic and Advanced Accountancy, Management Accounting, Financial Management and planning, and the Australian Tax System.

Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
Well, there have been quite a few and I have definitely adopted a few teaching styles from my teachers. I have had many teachers who have inspired me. Instead of specifically calling out someone, I will call out the teaching style that impresses me, I like teachers who can give examples and relate to a situation and that helps students to grasp the subject matter very well, instead of theoretical explanation.

What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?
Adapt to student's needs as each student is different, understand their background as this helps in providing correct examples to make them explain the concept and most importantly be patient and invest time in students without being very commercial.

Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.
When I was young my Amma (mom) always said the only thing that will remain with you permanently is knowledge the rest will come and go including money. After so many years it still inspires and motivates me whenever I do or learn something new.

What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?
I find keeping up to date on recent changes and amendments can sometimes be challenging given there is a lot of material available and it can be really difficult to say what is academically important.

Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?
I am passionate about teaching, whilst it's not a full-time profession these days, I am keen to spend more hours and help support students with their curriculum. I believe knowledge is the only thing that can never be stolen from someone and it can only increase when you give it to others.

What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions 😄)?
I am very fortunate to get fantastic students who enjoyed learning with me and I enjoyed helping them. It's a great feeling when you can help someone to learn and progress in their life.
