About the lesson
I cater my lessons to my students. I like to know their goals, their struggles, and their interests. My philosophy is that this is about YOU, and what you need. I am comfortable working on everything from nitty gritty grammar to the essay writing process to analysis of magical realism or Nordic noir. I love to learn, and I whole-heartedly believe you can teach me as much as I teach you.

About Lauren
I am an English professor at Johnson and Wales University- Charlotte and Wingate University. I have experience teaching and tutoring students from 5th grade through the university level. My specialty is working with high school and college-aged students, because I like helping them understand writing as a tool they can master for THEIR purposes. Writing is a skill and it opens doors, no matter the path you envision for your future career.
I have had extensive experience working with First Generation college students as well as some experience with English Language Learners. I have worked as a teacher at a Title I middle school, and as a tutor at a for-profit private school in Charlotte. These experiences have led me to a greater understanding of what skills high school and early college/university students need to hone for success in more advanced courses, no matter their background.
AT THE END OF THE DAY, my passion is working with students. I live for those lightbulb moments when concepts suddenly click.
