Learn Latin from someone who failed Latin (twice!) and went on to Latin PhD studies at an ivy league university
About the lesson
That's right, I failed Latin I and II in high school. Then went on to do PhD studies in Latin and Greek.
I know where a student is likely to have difficulties and how to help the student surmount the issues. I don't laugh at student errors -I've been there myself.
My methodology is to explain the "theory" of the topic (for example, "what is a direct or indirect object"; then, to put the theory into practice with real examples.
So, why do you want to learn Latin? What problems do you have with Latin?

About Oliver
My first years teaching Latin were for students in 7th & 8th grade. Then I taught another 20 years at the secondary level with Latin I - Latin IV. Somewhere during the time of secondary teaching, I began work on a PhD in Classics (Latin & Greek). I completed all coursework and exams for the PhD but entered the business world instead.
BA - Boston College
MA - Boston College
PhD - Brown University (all but dissertation)

Oliver is amazing at language, its impressive how many he can speak and write fluently. But what really stands out is his interest in etymology, so students can also learn where words come from, helping solidify knowledge transfer. Also, he is patient and listens well.
Oliver was not only my Latin teacher, but also taught Latin to many friends and students throughout the years. Through my gradual discipline in Latin, I also developed confidence. Before my Latin studies, I was an average student with poor comprehension of English grammar. Owing to Oliver's instruction, I went from zero to advanced Latin. I had such a command, that as a by-product I excelled in my university English writing courses. I can write English essays with confidence and I even spot nuanced grammar mistakes by my colleagues who majored in Communications and English.
Oliver teaches the person, not the subject. He was building me up! He has a methodology that's rooted in a deep understanding of how people learn languages. He's also a polyglot and linguistics expert. You'll find Oliver's energy captivating. Follow his guidance, step by step, and you'll make great progress! To whom it may concern,
It is with very great pleasure that I write this recommendation for Oliver Frank Beauchemin to support his teaching performance to Indian students where native languages is Hindi.
Oliver knows much about Indian education, that is why he is able to build a good basis for English learning.
Before Oliver came to Varanasi, he lived and was teaching in Andhra Pradesh (AP) in a small town which is in the southern part of India (where the native language is Telugu).
There are many students who is still connect with Oliver. And he still teaches them and corrects them with his good qualities of English.
I am one of his students from Varanasi. When Oliver met me I couldn't speak with him because I didn't know English, but Oliver speaks a little Hindi too so I talked to him in Hindi.
I asked him to support me with English and he did.
I learned a lot from him. He corrects my grammatical mistakes and pronunciation. He also described the difference between American and British English. I learned good vocabulary from him.
It is all about Oliver teaching Indian students for ₹500 per hour. He is not charging money to become rich, his aim is to help students become students educated.
I have had a wonderful experience with Oliver (OFB).
Sujeet Kumar SoniOliver is a fantastic teacher. His command of his subject is unparalleled as is his ability to diagnose and address the specific challenges a learner may encounter. If you are truly interested in learning Oliver has an inexhaustible breadth and depth of knowledge.
Oliver is an Excellent English Tutor. I've taken both offline as well as online classes with him. I find his teaching methods very effective and easy to understand. I highly recommend him.
Oliver has a very broad knowledge of languages and a great deal of experience teaching. He is a native speaker of English, in which he has a huge vocabulary, and is also fluent in Hindi and in French. He studied Latin and Classical Greek at the graduate university level and has a great deal of experience teaching classical languages and French. He also has a working knowledge of many other languages, and of many other subjects. It would not be an overstatement to call his knowledge encyclopedic.
His knowledge of Hindi is particularly impressive because he began studying this difficult language after the age of 60. It’s not even easy to find learning materials for Hindi in the United States.
He knows how to learn a language, which is a key issue in language-learning. As a teacher, he has a knack for getting students through the tricky aspects of a language. As important, he imparts a love of languages, and of learning in general, in his students.
Oliver was my first and best Latin teacher, and he informally taught me some French, as well. I strongly recommend Oliver as a tutor of English, Latin and French.
Oliver is a wonderful teacher - not just in language, but in life too. He knows how to guide students and ask questions that lead you to realizations. A+
