About the lesson

We will read leading cases in Torts, Contracts, and Property. I will explain them, line by line, and we'll discuss their broader meaning. The understanding you gain will carry over into your work after you arrive on campus and save you a great deal of time and frustration. I will provide the cases in pdf format. Once you understand the materials we cover you will vastly increase your success in your 1L year, the most important year in law school.

About Bob

I am a law professor with 4 Professor of the Year Awards. After practicing law for 18 years, I became a law professor and was elected to American Law Institute. I specialize in common law subjects for 1L students. I have taught Torts, Property, and Contracts in law schools at which I was a regular, tenured member of the faculty. I can help you learn to read complex cases, statutes, and Restatement provisions, so that you will more quickly grasp the things your own professors say and do in class. My services are ideal for beginning law students who want to get off to a good start, or for students who are struggling during their first year and want help with common law subjects.

Cardozo’s Ghost was my professor for one of my basic 1L common law courses. He approaches 1L teaching in a way that is particularly helpful for new law students. He explains everything, in ways that other law professors do not, and so having him as a teacher helped me in my other classes, too. Because he deciphered the basics of judicial opinions, I was better able to understand what was going on in class when discussions progressed to policy debates, statutory construction, and law reform. Without basics, those more advanced matters can seem incomprehensible. I’m happy to know that my old professor is now tutoring. His students will learn even more from him in that context than I was able to learn in my rather large class, and I learned a lot.

Details

Base rate is $75 per hour for single student. For two students, $125 total per hour, for three, $150 total per hour. I will not work with a group of more than three. Lessons must generally be longer than one hour to maximize the beneficial effect. The ideal time seems to be two hours. First lesson of one hour only is free.
