About Noah

I am a full-time martial arts instructor and school owner with 39 years' experience (as of 2022). I have been teaching martial arts in the suburbs of NYC for over 20 years, and full-time since 2006. My school is an official branch of the Okinawa Kobudo Doushi Rensei-kai, the Zen Nihon Toyama-ryu Iaido Renmei, and the US Federation of Batto-do. I hold the ranks of Kyoshi 7th dan in karate, Renshi 6th dan in kobudo, Menkyo 6th dan in jujitsu, 4th dan USFBD, 4th dan ZNTIR, and Shodan in the Toyama-ryu Seizankai.

Sensei Noah Mitchell is an incredibly accomplished martial artist, devoted teacher as well as a fun and interesting person. I started to train on traditional Japanese weapons (Kobudo) with him at his Mountain Stream Budo dojo in Putnam Valley about three years ago. I had trained traditional Karate do in another dojo for 20 years, so I can appreciate the specific talents that Sensei Noah brings to his teaching. He is a great technician, with a sharp eye to the fine points of kata, and a global knowledge of martial arts. This allows him to draw from jujitsu, karate, kobudo and Japanese-sword (all styles in which he holds high ranking black belts) when he explains the how's and why's we do certain techniques, rather than repeating them as dogma. His classes are very traditional and follow all the etiquette I came to expect from my martial arts experience; yet, he can make classes be fun and relaxed, an ideal way of learning budo. But he is rigorous and stern at promotion time which motivates us as his students to be well prepared and know the whole material in the syllabus. Bottom line is that Sensei Noah's is a fun teacher whose love for martial arts shows in the way he teaches and whose lifetime experience as a teacher makes his students reach their potential and his dojo be a true place of enlightenment.

Sensei Noah is a great teacher. He is good with adults and children alike. He is very knowledgeable and he is also very patient with his students. He makes learning martial arts fun. I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to study Karate, Kobudo, Jujitsu, and Iaido (sword).
