About the lesson
My teaching methods are quite flexible. I largely depend on the first 30 minutes of my interaction with my students through diagnostic testing and free oral expression. The personal preference on topics and focus of lessons is combined with an age-appropriate planned lesson to quantify the progress of the learning experience on a day-to-day basis. While most of my students study Tagalog because their significant other is a Filipino, I take into consideration that the very purpose of their wanting to learn the language is to be able to understand and be understood. I always check with my students if they are happy with the flow of lessons. It can be several topics like vocabulary building with visual aids, sentence construction to practice usage, grammar, pronunciation, etc. I use different teaching methodologies based on which works best with every student. If they want to learn more, or would like to expound on something else, there is no limit on what can be learned and discussed within the study time paid for.

About Delia
I am a bilingual (English and Tagalog) Filipino-Canadian with more than 20 years experience teaching and tutoring students of all ages. I graduated with a degree in Psychology which makes it easier for me to understand the individual needs of the learner, especially when it comes to learning Tagalog as a second language. Lessons are customized according to the ability and preference of my student, thereby enabling them to speak and write in Tagalog.
Mutual respect and privacy is of utmost importance so I can make a positive difference in my students' learning experience.

Perfect! The lessons I have taken with Ma'am Delia to learn and improve my Tagalog have been going quite smoothly. I have increased my vocabulary and practiced my accent with each lesson and I feel like I am making great progress. My tutor, Delia, is very patient and thorough and she encourages me with every new sentence and word. I feel like I am gaining so much and I am quite confident that by the time I am able to travel to the Philippines, I will be able to express myself to a decent degree.

Apart from hearing his brother and sister-in-law speak Tagalog, he also wants to achieve fluency to be able to engage in conversation. Ammon is a fast learner. I haven't had many tutors in my 14 years of existence. Ms.Del is my first English tutor. I personally felt like she did an amazing job to help improve my writing skills. The main way she helped was to keep making me write essays and correct what I did wrong so I don't continue the same mistakes. Together, we wrote a wide variety of essays from Mount Everest to my personal life and these helped very much. Ms. Del would also send me her personal essay of some of the topics, so I get to see how she writes as well. Not only did we do essays but she also gave me a rubric and gave me templates and rules to follow when writing essays. Although writing essays can be a hassle it will help in the future, when I go to higher studies and even in university.
Thank you Ms. Del for helping me improve my writing skills.Miss Del is one my son's teacher when he was in grade school. She is very friendly , smart , accommodating, and she uses different techniques in teaching the kids..She has group of students that she handles well during those times ....I recommend her to Superprof members because she does her work professionally and she's really good in teaching English Grammar and personality development....She'll be an asset to your group.
I have known Teacher Del for more than 20 years. She was my English and Math tutor during my elementary days. She taught me easy to understand methods in Math to help me cope up with my assignments.
She also taught me English (which is not my first language) and it helped me a lot to be confident in day-to-day conversations. I never told her this, but in college, I actually got a perfect grade in Speech 101 and this is all thanks to her.
Teacher Del is not only a great teacher, but she also builds lasting relationships with her students and helps them be the best version of themselves.
I am absolutely recommending her! It's good to know that Ms. Del started again with what she loves the most-- teaching.
She was my tutor when I was a kid, and I can say that I've excelled in my English and Speech Classes-- all because of her.
She provides a tailored-fit type of teaching, because it is definitely not a "one size fits all" kind of thing. She familiarize herself with the student first (know her learning style, hobbies, etc.) to be able to know what would possibly work for her.
She's an excellent teacher. She's passionate towards work, and she's friendly to her students. My family adores her ️Ma'am Dels was my private tutor English language for almost 5 months,
I needed to improve my English skills
since my first languag is Arabic my English was not that strong so I needed to improve it to be qualified for the entrance exams of the college.
I highly recommend Teacher Delia, she have a plenty of teaching skills, she creates ways to make things easier for the students to understand.
for me after all the English lessons I took with maam Delia i felt that very big difference in my English skills It helped me to pass the entrance exams and in my daily life here in the philippines since English is the seconed language here
finally i want to say
maam Delia was not only a teacher for me but also a mather
Thank you so much Maam Dels
much Love poMs Del is one of the best teachers that I ever had. Aside from the english classes that I attended ever since I was a kid (probably I started when I was 10 years old) she had taught me so many great things.
Her teaching style can help to develop someone's confidence, not only in speaking and writing in English spontaneously, but someone's personality as a whole. Also, I learned to interact with people, be friends with people in my nicest way. Lastly, I learned to be humble. For example, if I see or hear people speaks hardly in English, I do not judge them yet I help them to build their thoughts.
With that, I truly say that having Ms Del as my "teacher and my aunt in one" is such a great honor. I really feel blessed that she had the time to teach me.Hello everyone, if you are looking for a teacher who teaches Tagalog or even the English language, I have a friend of mine who is willing to help you to learn, I would definitely recommend you to her, she is very good at teaching, I actually one of her learner and also, my son before I go to the states and I learned a lot from her, I really admired her a bunch too.
Ms. Del would make a great teacher because she has this one-of-a-kind teaching style that everybody loves. She makes all lessons, no matter how difficult it is, easy to understand. She is also very patient to her students. I've been her students since I was in 3rd grade (I am now in 2nd year college) and for the past years, and with all the teachers I have met in my formal education, Ms. Del's teaching style is still the best for me. When Ms. Del is your teacher, rest assured that you will learn in no time.
Thank you for being inspiring teacher, tutor for me and to my friends,
I Ms. Del Mandap because of....
Love for kids, love for subject willing to help, enthusiasm, work ethic, humility thats itTeacher Del is my mother. Growing up, i've seen her excellence in teaching students in different levels, professions and nationalities. Her decades of experience made positive impact on her students' lives.
Ms Delia , my teacher and mentor, has provided me excellent English lessons and training. With her help, I was able to harness my public speaking skills which gained me confidence. Her teaching style is superb . Her lessons has become a part of me and it surely helped me excel in my chosen field. ️
Ms. Delia is a very great, knowledgable, understandable, passionate, intelligent, and creative teacher that I met. I can say that she’s the best english teacher in the whole world. I like her style in teaching. She doesn’t give up until a student or a professional understands all his home works, questions, lessons in school or at work. She is the best teacher that can help you boost your self confidence and be more comfortable in communicating in english. She’s not just a teacher to her student. She can be a good friend, best friend, aunt, or mom too. I can say that all of us that became student of Ms. Del, have a great connection with her. We really love Ms. Del.
Teacher Del was my tutor in English And Math. She was a key factor in helping me become confident in reading and speaking. Teacher Del also is kind and understanding.
Teacher Del was my children's tutor for several years when she still had DEVELOPMENT OF ENGLISH LEARNERS SCHOOL (D.E.L.'S.) in Manila, Philippines. She taught my first-born twins, MARK and VHEA (now almost 18 years old) and my 3rd child TRIZ, (now 11) in all academic subjects from 2nd to 4th grade. She also tutored my youngest child, BERNICE. Thanks to Teacher Del's patience and close supervision, Bernice learned to read, spell words and write legibly even before she was 4 years old. All my children are doing well in school because they had solid foundation and study discipline they learned from Teacher Del. Leading my children to boost their confidence and actively participate in school.
Highly recommended! I've been her student and I always look forward attending her classes. Her style of teaching is unique, enjoyable and have plenty of things to learn from her! I also observed her how she teaches other age groups as she seems enjoying what she's doing. She is compassionate, lively, patient and has a lovely voice too! She is knowledgeable and confident. She always brings out the best of every student!
Teacher Del helped me gain confidence in my English Communication Skills. She was quite patient in going through all the lessons such as Intensive Grammar Review, English Conversation Fluency and Pronounciation practice. She even trained me to speak with poise and confidence. I still remember the video she took of me several years ago I was surprised that I could actually speak well, given the boost of confidence.I highly recommend teacher Del because I believe in her ability to make a difference.
I've known Del for many years, in fact I was her partner when she opened her school in the Philippines. She was able to teach students of any age and they all benefited from her individually tailored Montessori style lessons. Del is an inspired teacher who has taught hundreds if not thousands of students over the years. Those students will attest that she makes her lessons enjoyable, thus her school catch phrase "THERE'S FUN IN LEARNING at D.E.L.'S." (Development of English Learners School).
We highly recommend Teacher Delia as an English teacher. SHe have the patience on kids, just like the case of my son Raphael when he was 4yrs old then .... She teach him not only pronouncing but also the way he writes is also included.... She have teach a lot of kids from the Philippines also...
When we first met, I was immediately impressed with Delia. During Delia’s time as an educator, She displayed great talents in managing my lessons, teaching concepts to all learning styles and developing a genuine love of learning.

1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?
I have always wanted to be a teacher since I was a child. As I was growing up, I developed several talents and other interests that could decide what I want to do. One of them is helping my friends and neighbors with their homework and school project. It was in the year 1985, when I turned 20 years old that I realized I want to be a professional teacher. I graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Psychology and became a preschool teacher the following year.

Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).
I teach academic English where I thoroughly explain the lesson, give more practical examples and test my student`s comprehension through oral and written exercises. I also teach English as a Second Language where I discuss the different parts of speech, subject-verb agreement, give drills in pronunciation and vocabulary enrichment. I use true-to-life situations as topics of lessons so the student can relate to and understand the lesson better. When I teach Tagalog as a Second Language, I always take into consideration the main purpose of my student in learning the language so I can customize the lesson according to his learning need. Since I am exposed to both Filipino and North American cultures, I am able to use my life experiences as basis of topics for discussion, and ice breaker for conversation. I like to discuss topics relevant to my student like his interests, current events, but I tend to talk less about personal matters so we set some boundary.
03
Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
I have several teachers I look up to, mostly those who taught English and Filipino. I remember their teaching strategies which paved the way for me to develop my own methodology.
04
What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?
To be a good tutor, apart from the ability to teach, one must have the desire to make a positive difference in the learning experience of the students.
05
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.
It was the year 2002, I was teaching the multiplication table to three Korean sisters who had a three-year-old brother. I thought it would be fun to use familiar tunes of nursery songs and rhymes to learn multiplication, so we sang tables 1 to 10 using different tunes. When the three girls started singing the table of 3 to the tune of `Twinkle Twinkle Little Star``, their 3-year-old-brother suddenly butted in and answered ``24`` when we were singing < 3 x 8 = ... > We all looked at him in surprise and he was smiling at us. We clapped our hands for him. We knew that he learned the answer because he repeatedly heard us singing the multiplication tables on a daily basis for several weeks. It was LEARNING BY REPETITION.
06
What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?
Some students have pre-conceived biases about the subject, if not about themselves. For instance, proper pronunciation can be such a challenge to some. It could be because where they come from, such is the way everybody else MISpronounces the word, it could also be regional defect, or one's low self-esteem. It could be challenging to unlearn such old habits, but patience is a virtue.
07
Do you have a particular passion?
Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different? Like I mentioned earlier, teaching was my childhood dream. I have always wanted to be a teacher. I also like singing so I use singing in teaching. I compose songs and carry out tunes that help me teach the concepts to my students. My other passion is cooking, so I use my specialty dishes as rewards to students who do a good job. They like the food I cook or bake!
08
What makes you a Superprof ?
What makes me a SuperProf is my ability to see through the student's ability, his attitude and behaviour and how I can help to achieve the learning goal.
09
Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?
I speak both English and Tagalog fluently because of my origins, life experiences and some previous school teachers inspired me to learn.
10
Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?
I think of the Philippines national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, who is a world-known genius. He speaks multiple languages, wrote novels and inspired many a people with his writings.
