About the lesson

My teaching method is based on my students' needs. If they are looking to improve their oral skills I'll initiate a debate inspired by a painting or a song or even the latest news. If they need to reinforce their writing skills, we will work on structure and arguments inspired by dynamic resources as well.

French is my first language.

Edith Piaf is, in my opinion, the most iconic artist from France. Everyone knows her music and lyrics, from France and beyond. Even if you don't understand French, you can sing (or hum) La vie en rose! and feel the poetics.

3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?
"Du coup," which means 'then/therefore…'

4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?
It gives me a real appreciation of the cultures of French-speaking countries -- their histories, their tastes, way of thinking. French is a tool I can use to discover 29 countries at least!

French also helps to easily learn other Latin-based languages.

5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?
Grammar is difficult because of its many irregularities though it is very structured. What helps is practice, of course, but also learning tricks and tips for more ease.

6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.
I remember my French teacher giving me a 19/20 for an essay, because he was not used to giving 20/20. The French are known for their discipline and rigorous thinking, which helped me succeed later in life.

7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?
Visiting Canada, Louisiana and Senegal opened up my eyes to other French speaking cultures. I learned beautiful words and expressions in Senegal that I never heard in France. I also learned a lot about Creole: the language, cuisine, thinking! And then there's Québec, where I felt like a complete foreigner!

8) What makes you a Superprof in language?
I am an expert in French.

I founded an award-winning editorial agency in three languages. I worked for years in the publishing industry, in literature and education specifically.
I am also passionate about the language and I like to play with it and all its forms -- which is what I hope to impart.

On a more personal level, I have great patience. I am also a very good listener and choose relevant, interactive resources in line with my student's interests.
