I can just recommend Jennifer as an ESOL teacher. She’s been given me classes for two months. I wanted to improve my conversational skills and to feel confident in English. Jennifer is a very professional teacher. She truly listens to your needs and always sends me a detailed feedback with all my errors. She’s also a motivating a interesting woman. Not only am I improving my linguistic skills but also my cultural knowledge about the US. It’s always a pleasure to skype with her.
I met Jennifer through a friend who had ESL classes with her some months ago. She told me that Jennifer was the best teacher she´d ever had. So, I hired her to help my son improve his English and get a better score on the TOEFL test. We had just moved from Brazil to the USA and my son only had a few days to study and prepare for the test. Jennifer did a very good job with him.
After that nice experience, I decided to have intensive private classes with her. During that time, I could see what a good teacher she is because she has a tremendous amount of knowledge of what she is teaching. She also has the ability to pass it on to her students in an effective way because she knows the process of learning a new language.
I believe Jennifer was born to teach ESL students, as she is an open-minded person and likes to not only teach but also learn from her students.I am from France and Jennifer is the best English teacher I’ve ever had!!! We communicate mainly by emails and she always answers very rapidly to my emails, gives me very useful tips, and helps me to have the best English essays I can (as English is not my first language)! She cares a lot about her students and is very professional. Highly, highly, highly recommend.
Jennifer is excellent with people. She loves helping others learn while acknowledging that she is also learning from them. Her teaching style is learner-centered. She gets to know her students and makes lesson plans that meet their specific needs. She loves what she does. Jennifer has worked with students from many countries. She is culturally sensitive and eager to create an environment of respect and a love for learning. I watched Jennifer grow from a new teacher who learned the ropes by taking risks to a professional in her field who helps students to improve their language skills and supports teachers in developing their instructional skills. She is among the very best of the hundreds of teachers whom I have trained, observed, and supervised over the years. Students love her, and her classes are really fun!

1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?
This is my first language.
02
2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?
I can't, because I don't think any language or culture can or should be represented by a single person or character, whether real or fictional. There is such tremendous diversity within every language and culture.
03
3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?
There are a lot! One is: Don't judge a book by its cover. Aside from being a language teacher, I'm also a writer, and in the process of publishing my books, I've learned just how much people do judge books by their covers! But I also really love the (non-literal) meaning of the idiom: Don't base your opinion on someone by the way they look.
04
4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?
Well, it's my first language, and I think there is always a connection to one's mother tongue. In terms of helping my students, English has become the international language in many fields, and being able to use it opens doors to many opportunities.
05
5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?
I think a challenge for a lot of students is connected and reduced speech, that is, how the words get connected, and which sounds sometimes get cut off when we speak. Students sometimes think that their challenges in understanding spoken English or in being understood are due to a lack of vocabulary. But sometimes it's just about understanding how spoken English is different from written English. I think learning the "rules" (there are always exceptions, of course), to connected and reduced speech can help a lot!
06
6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.
My second language is Spanish. I studied it in school, but when I moved to Spain, it sounded NOTHING like the textbook Spanish I'd learned. Plus, I'd only had one teacher from Spain, so the accents I was used to were completely different. I felt really uncomfortable making mistakes and asking people to repeat themselves, so I decided I wouldn't speak until my Spanish was perfect. So of course, that meant I barely spoke! For two months! Then one day I was just tired of being silent. So I started to speak. I made a ton of mistakes, but I learned: the only way to learn how to speak a language is to speak it! (Of course!) And 99% of the time, people are very supportive of language learners.
07
7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?
Travel helped me gain a much better understanding of how different the same language can be in different countries. I'd lived in Spain for two years by the time I went to Mexico. For the first two weeks in Mexico, I was a bit lost until I got used to the different accent, vocabulary, etc. And even though English is my native language, there were definitely moments in Scotland when I had to ask people to repeat themselves several times. But as I love to hear different accents, sometimes I'd ask people questions I already knew the answers to, just to hear their accents! 🙂

8) What makes you a Superprof in language?
I've been teaching for 18 years. I still have a blast in class with my students. I'm not just a language teacher, but also a language learner. And I love helping my students achieve their goals and make their dreams come true!
