About the lesson
Learning an instrument has so many benefits. Students are able to concentrate better in school, grades tend to be better, they have improved dexterity, and may and even feel like they are learning a second language when learning to read and "speak" music. My main goal in teaching is to improve students' confidence. I know that when students progress on their instruments, they become more sure of themselves and carry that with them in other aspects of their lives. My teaching approach for adult students is to allow them to guide their learning process. I become more supportive in my teacher role and let them choose their own musical paths.

Perfect! Excellent!! Can't wait until next time!!
Perfect! Very knowledgable about music theory and playing the instrument I am interested in. Very patient and encouraging. Her teaching style is perfect for an adult student acting more as a mentor focusing on the help her student needs. I look forward to the lesson each week.

I was Theresa's student from 2006-2010, and even though it's been a decade (WOW!) now since I took flute lessons with her, I still attribute a lot of my successes directly to her. Her teaching helped me make IMEA all-district three times, and all-state band my senior year, as well as several blue ribbon solos, including a Judge's Choice my last year. I also had the greatest fortune of joining the Marching Illini after Theresa helped me with my audition. MI made some of the greatest memories of my life, as well as a vast professional network--this wouldn't have been possible without Theresa. All these experiences not only made playing flute fun and rewarding, but gave me confidence, poise, and showed me what hard work can achieve. If I had practiced as much as Theresa told me to, with her musical technique and interpretation, I could have gone so much farther in music. I whole-heartedly recommend taking flute lessons from her, regardless of what your goals in music are.
Theresa is a very versatile performer as a flautist, and an engaging and friendly teacher. If you, or your kid, are wanting to learn to play the flute, you will be delighted with Theresa's online lessons!
We were referred to Theresa O'Hare by my daughter's band teacher SEVEN years ago. Under Theresa's instruction Claire has been made All-District seven times and All-State twice. Our preference is in person lessons but during the Covid-19 pandemic, lessons were virtual. Claire continued to thrive. Theresa has not only taught Claire to play the flute, she has taught her Music Theory and Music History. Theresa recently helped Claire prepare for her Senior recital. We could not have been happier. I can not give a higher recommendation for Theresa O'Hare. I fully believe my daughter's success is directly tied to working with Theresa.
I'm reed player that started playing flute as an adult, and I needed some help getting going. A Facebook friend recommended Theresa. She was very helpful and supportive and eagerly adapted the lessons to my skills and interests. For me, her style was a good fit, highly recommended.

I recommend for beginners to take 30-minute lessons. I offer 30-minute lessons at $25, 45-minute lessons at $36, and hour lessons for $50. The first lesson is free and typically I will periodically add extra time to a lesson without charge. I require 12 hours notice for cancellation.
