About the lesson
With 3 years of experience tutoring college students, I've worked with people from all backgrounds and study habits.
My goal is to translate to you my passion for natural sciences and the ability to think logically and critically like an engineer. You will not only gain a better understanding of the subject matter but also pick up on the "skill to learn". You will learn to work through problems by "understanding" fundamental knowledge and the skill of applying it rather than "memorizing".
I can also provide useful resources, handouts, personally-written notes, and exercises I find helpful.
If your subject/course is not listed, feel free to reach out. Do not be afraid if you're struggling. The important thing is that you are doing your best. We have all been there and I will help you to the best of my abilities.

About Jay
My name is Jing Tao but I go by Jay. I've traveled from Malaysia to the United States on the other side of the world (literally) to pursue Chemical Engineering and have since taken up opportunities to spread knowledge as both a volunteer and a peer tutor.
I enjoy both learning and teaching Computer Programming, Math, Chemistry, and Physics. Besides tutoring, my time is made productive as a researcher at Miljanic Research Group working on porous material and organic chemistry synthesis with scholarships. I am an active member of the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).
Other hobbies include baking and traveling. I enjoy learning other languages and cultures.
Review
All of our reviews are collected by us and are 100% reliable. They correspond to a real experience lived by students with Jay.
Perfect! Jay has been absolutely crucial to my progress and success in my classes. I am returning to school after 25 years, and I have tried many different methods to help me navigate through new (and old) material; I can confidently attest to Jay's competence as an instructor and more importantly as a true teacher. His lessons are tailored to make sure that am succeeding in my assignments and exams but also that at every step I am building my own knowledge base until what was foreign becomes intuitive. I have no doubt that anyone who learns from Jay will leave each lesson with expanded capabilities and newfound confidence.
- Jay's response : Awesome! Really enjoyable to work with.
Perfect! Jay is really great, after only 3 sessions my daughter was able to get a much higher grade than usual on her first quiz since she started working with him. She feels really comfortable with his way of teaching. He is very good on explaining difficult concepts, responding questions and following a proper pace. We are so happy we found him!
- Jay's response : Great!

I really enjoy learning and working with Jay! He is honestly so patient with his tutees and they always feel better after meeting with him, especially when it is a subject in the sciences. Give him a try!
Best,
EmmaI know Jay as a peer tutor on campus and really appreciate his time helping me learn MATLAB coding. He is able to break down complicated problems into easy-to-follow steps that allows you to understand the prompt well. I hope he'll be able to help you just as he did with me!
Jay is my colleague from the research lab. He is very keen in the sciences and does really well in his classes. Not only does he understand the material thoroughly, but he also learned to apply them in the lab whilst honing his analytical skills. Jay is pleasant to work with and also a great friend.
I have worked with Jay as a peer tutor on campus and can speak for his ability to relay difficult material such as Calculus and Chemistry. He is very patient and understanding with students of all levels so don't be afraid whether you are struggling with the basics or need help with the more complex problems. Would definitely recommend him as a tutor
