About the lesson
Kukuwa Dance Workout is an African inspired dance workout created to improve fitness and wellness through African dance and music.
The workout features isolated and integrated movements of the head, shoulders, waist, pelvic, quads, legs, feet, toes, hands, wrists and is designed to force the use of energy and breathing to synchronize with the rhythm of the music.
The best part is that you are getting a full body workout while having fun! Travel to Africa without a passport through music and dance from different African countries. Come and let's dance!

About Kerry
Hello! I'm Kerry and I have been a certified Kukuwa Dance Workout Instructor and teacher (by profession) since 2018. I am a passionate dancer and teacher, and I enjoy motivating others and spreading positive energy. What better way to do both than with Kukuwa Dance Workout classes!
A class with me will be filled with energetic dances moves suited to your level to get you feeling energized and burning calories without even noticing. My goal is to ensure that students complete my class feeling confident, empowered and excited for more.
At this time classes are held online (in English or French) via Teams or Zoom.

1) At what age did you start dancing? Tell us about this time in your life.
I started playing sports and dancing when I was probably 5 years old. As a child I was very active and loved trying new things. I played many sports such as track and field, basketball, table tennis and of course dance. During my early years of school I trained in contemporary, hip hop and African dance I was still exploring different interests at this time, but after a few years I soon realized that dancing was more than a sport for me, and that it was truly a passion that I wanted to do long term.

2) What are your favourite sports; those that you practice at a high level, a simple hobby, and a sport that you'd still like to discover?
My favourite sport that I practice at a high level would be dance. A sport that is more of a hobby would be long distance or cross country running. A sport that I am still discovering is tennis. I did not play tennis growing up and only discovered it in my late teens. Even though I do not play it often, I truly enjoy it and hope to get more practice in it whenever I can.

3) What gives you the motivation and passion to pursue your sport?
My source of motivation and passion for me to pursue dance is my love for dance itself. I feel at my highest sense of fulfillment when I am dancing or performing in general. This is what motivates me to keep pursuing opportunities in dance and to make it more prominent in my life.

4) Do you have a sporting achievement that you're particularly proud of?
At the moment, I don't think I have a sporting achievement that I am particularly proud of as yet. I am, however, very excited about progressing in the dancing field.

5) How have your achievements and challenges made you a better sportsperson?
My achievements and challenges have helped me to learn important lessons in developing myself as a sportsperson. For example, I have learned how to endure difficult setbacks and be patient as well as focus on developing weaknesses until I am able to achieve my goal.

6) If you had to go for a jog with a famous athlete, who would you choose? And what questions would you ask them?
I would definitely choose to go for a jog with Jamaican Olympian and fastest woman in the world Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. I love her energy, her story and journey. I would ask her about how she stays motivated and focuses her energy on her goals.

7) How do you help people stay motivated?
I help people stay motivated by promoting having fun and enjoying moments. I think when people are enjoying themselves they can realize what is most important to them and what they would like to focus on in their lives, and therefore use that to stay motivated.

8) What makes you a Superprof in sports?
I am a Superprof in dance because it is my passion and something I could do all the time without ever getting bored or losing motivation. I enjoy sharing this energy and source of motivation with my students as it is also amazing to see my students leave my classes more energetic and excited for life than they were when they came in. Seeing the impact on my students is a huge motivation for me!
