I paint everyday and have studied with international artists. I exhibit regularly. I use metacognitive pedagogy related to fine arts to teach. Jungian Therapy concerns my research. Artist Maryann Pasda DiEdwardo, Ed.D., educational consultant, independent scholar, published writer, master teacher, and adjunct faculty for Northampton Community College and Lehigh Carbon Community College, was selected as Woman of the Year 2006 by the American Biographical Institute. Dr. DiEdwardo presented “Modern Music Transforms the College English Classroom” at the Montgomery County Community College Technology Conference October 2004 and at the Teaching and Learning Center Lehigh Carbon Community College Lunch and Learn Workshop in 2005. Areas of expertise include distance learning elementary to graduate level, art lessons, art demonstrations, art exhibits, curriculum design and implementation, literacy, multicultural educational topics, educational psychology and instructional design theories, paradigms and models as well as art therapy.
MaryAnn has been participating in and promoting fine arts education since 1968 when she was invited to participate in the Governor’s School of Pennsylvania. An instructor for colleges in the Lehigh Valley, lecturer on art and writing in the State of Pennsylvania, and the recipient of the Northampton Community College Project Aware Outstanding Service Award 1978, she is also a reviewer for Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education Editorial Department.
Dr. DiEdwardo received her Bachelor of Arts in
Fine Arts/Theatre Arts from Pennsylvania State University in 1975. A summa cum laude graduate and winner of the Carnegie Scholarship, she was Graduation Marshall for College of Arts and Architecture, President of Mortar Board, and elected to both Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi.
Subsequently, MaryAnn received her Master of Arts in English from Lehigh University in 1980 with an emphasis on Shakespearean Studies where she was a member of Sigma Tau Delta and instructor. She received her Doctor of Education degree in 2004. Her article entitled "Pairing Linguistic and Music Intelligences" was published in the Kappa Delta Pi Record. Vol. 41, No. 3, Spring 2005, pages 128-130.
Her dissertation, which is in the collections of seven libraries in the United States, was a case study survey research experiment that I performed in 2003 to investigate the significant sustained performance of Northampton Community College students in technology enhanced classrooms from January 2003 to December 2003. I used single post test only to study relationships of dependent variables to the use of modern songs with lyrics and their pedagogical application in the college English technology classroom. Ultimately I attempted to demonstrate a new framework for teaching college English through a combination of naturalistic observation and classification of variables. The subjects in the study were 70 students in two different sections of English I and three different sections of English II.
In 2004, statistical results of my case study research suggest that pairing music and linguistic intelligences in the college classroom improves students’ grades and abilities to compose theses statements for research papers in courses that emphasize reading and writing skills (DiEdwardo 2004). Grounded in educational theories as well as offering practical applications, pairing two intelligences advances student potential. Based on Multiple Intelligence Theory or MI Theory (Gardner 1993) and participation as precedent to learning (Bateson 1975), pairing music with linguistic activities suggests that integrating music into college linguistic classrooms and virtual classrooms enables students to learn to read and write. Listening to instrumental music as well as songs with lyrics before and during lectures, presentations, and virtual lecture asynchronous lessons offers practical solutions to teachers.
In my initial study in 2003, I refined Howard Gardner’s (1993) definition of music as a “separate intellectual competence” and compared music intelligence to linguistic intelligence. Furthermore, presently, in the distance learning educational platform, I suggest that through acknowledgement of MI Theory, educators infuse cognitive abilities of students by helping them “think” as one of my students suggested. Electronic reader response journaling, group activities, music as catalyst, processfolio, and writing process theory enlighten their linguistic, logical-mathematical, musical, special, bodily kinesthetic, naturalistic, personal and existential intelligences.
Other scholars who are participating in the effort to promote MI Theory in education include Kathleen Gaffney, winner of the first ever U.S. Department of Education’s “John Stanford Education Heroes Award” and president Artsgenesis in New York. (concealed information)

Recommendations

While I was still employed as an English Department Assistant Chair and in charge of hiring adjunct teachers for First-year English classes, Maryann was always the first person I employed. Maryann brings to the classroom a wealth of experience and special interests that enrich her teaching, and her students love the excitement this cross-pollination creates. Even more impressive is Maryann's ability to respond to individual learning patterns among her students and to tailor her approach for each one. She is warm-hearted and always generous with her time. And her students will learn a great deal from knowing her --- much more than just a mastery of English composition.
She is encouraging and positive. It is an absolute honour and pleasure to learn from her.
I have known Maryann for 30 years during the time I was homeschooling our five children. She has been helpful to each one throughout their education and is a patient, kind and caring instructor who gives great attention to detail
I strongly recommend Maryann. As her student, she is a very responsible teacher. She made a lot of good suggestions and corrections on my paper work and thesis. She helped me to achieve the writing skill. She is always very kind. She is very good at communication with students. She is a great author and writer too. I am always love her writings.
Amazing teacher, writer, and scholar. Would highly recommend her to teach, tutor, or hire as an editor.
Dear all,
This, to me, would seem to go without speaking.
Dr. Maryann DiEdwardo is a scholar, a researcher and a teacher of superb quality.
When you are fortunate enough to be in her presence in an academic community or other, you are facing and interacting with one who gives, after thorough assessment of her students, her complete attention.
Thus, she is able to bring to all her students well honed plans for their success a process in which all are partners. For, one's progress is hers also as she learns even as she imparts. This is done compassionately and using the most up to date modalities, plus the knowledge bases available virtually and person to person, by one who is well written, judicious, firm and gentle.
I wholeheartedly commend Dr. Maryann DiEdwardo, a academic of brilliance, to your program and its service.
With best regards,
Dr. Juliet Emanuel,
